Spring flooding/sandbags

This spring  may bring major flooding per predictions from the various Gov’t agencies.  New forecasts are due out on Thursday the 24th of March.

I have been using the National Weather Service site to track River levels. Here is that link if you wish to monitor

http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=arx&gage=gtti4&view=1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1

In the past we were able to get free sandbags from Clayton County emergency services. They are no longer providing this service. Sandbags may be purchased at Garnavillo at the Mill and in Peosta at Farber’s. Their Number is 1-800-553-9068. Thanks to Bob and Donna Gilkes for this info.

Lets keep our fingers crossed

Road Embargo

Until further notice we have implemented our spring road embargo.

No large or heavy vehicles or trucks (including Large construction equipment) are permitted on the roads during this period to protect our roads.

As the garbage truck is also subject to this restriction, Trash can be place at the dumpsters as you come onto the island.

Please do not drop TV’s, electronics, grills or appliances etc. as the Trash company will not  pick these up without additional charge.

Thanks for your cooperation

Thinking of Building?

This list is not intended to be all inclusive but it will point you in right direction
You will need an engineer to shoot lot elevation and your floor needs to be 1′ above 100 yr level.
We used Roger Mohn 563-538-4067. Cost me about $250. He will need to certify when construction is done as well.
All construction needs a permit from Island Association $25.00 plus a road damage deposit of $250.000
You will need a  county building permit. contact Janet Ott 563-245-2451
Asia Azam at DNR is in charge of  permits   Asia.Azam@dnr.iowa.gov
phone is 515-281-8869.
There is a joint form that goes to DNR, Corps of Engineers, and Soverign Lands Dept. here is link to Forms page http://www.iowadnr.gov/water/floodplain/fppermits.html
Be sure you ask exactly what forms they need. Applications may sit if all forms are not in.
It may Take several months to get a permit from DNR

Important River update

River is now expected to crest just over 18′ late next week.

Be sure you pull docks , boats, etc.

There are empty sand bags courtesy od the Guttenberg Fire Dept available in the Island building which is unlocked, if you need them. keep an eye on the NOAA site to track river levels. (see yesterdays post)

Annual Meeting/ Boat at North ramp

Just a reminder that the Annual Meeting is Saturday morning at the Island building. We will have people available to collect your dues payments if you have not yet sent them.  Dues must be current to vote

Also someone is storing their boat on the the north ramp property. It is chained to to a tree, has no numbers, and has caused problems for other launching their personal boats.  picture is below. If this is yours or you Know whose it is your cooperation in moving it will be appreciated.

Thanks
