Board Meeting
May 19, 2018
Board Members Present:
Meeting called to order at 7:58 am by President Terry Denner. Board members present: Tom Reimer, Bruce Copeland, Bob Buhrow, Jane Ertl, Chad Williams, Tony Reyerson Also present were Helen Schwietert (Treasurer) Laurie Helling (Secretary)
Members Present: Don Niosi, Ken Brandel, Cindy Miller, Teri Denner
Minutes:
- Motion made to approve the board minutes of 4-18-2018 by Tony Reyerson 2nd by Chad Williams. All approved. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report:
- Treasurer’s Report & statement presented
- Lot 201 was paid-$191.75
- Motion made by Jane Ertl to approve Treasurer’s report. 2nd by Tony Reyerson. All approved. Motion carried.
Bills:
- Bills Presented: Utilities, Mowing, taxes, Bi-County
- Discussion held on Mowing duties, weed trimming, picking up debris left from high water/storms.
- Tony will call mowing contractor and remind to trim weeds along common ground.
- Big debris, sticks etc. will be removed by island members.
- Thank you to those who have already done clean up without being asked.
- Bruce Copeland made motion to approve bills, 2nd by Tom Reimer. Motion carried.
Building Permits:
- None at this time
Property Ownership Changes:
- Board has heard of a few ownership changes ongoing. Will confirm at next Board meeting.
- **Reminder: Please let a board member know if you buy/sell/transfer property so we can keep our records current. Thank you.
Road Report:
- A few cracks have opened up. Board members will do a tar and cold patch those spots.
- REMINDER: IF you have a large piece of equipment, concrete truck, concrete pumper, members need to put down a road deposit. Property owners are responsible for the road and any repairs that would occur from work being done on your lot(s).
- Discussion held on BARD cleaning out trucks on the common ground. A large cement pile has formed again! Tony Reyerson will call BARD and let them know, again, any cleaning should be on the property owner’s lot or off the island property. Not in common grounds.
- Discussion held on many people ignoring Road Closed signs this spring when back road was underwater, even to point of driving through the farm field.
- Tony Reyerson made motion to fabricate a simple bar gate for both entrances to back road during high water. Cost not to exceed $2500. Jane Ertl 2nd All in favor. Motion passed.
Boat Storage Committee:
- Don Niosi reports there will be an opening in the attached garage to the Association building, however there is a waiting list. Discussion held on the storage of boats and trailers and charges related to storage.
- Motion made by Tony Reyerson, 2nd by Tom Reimer to adjust pricing for boat storage **See Addendum
- Effective August 1, 2018, new pricing. See below. All approved. Motion passed.
- Boat Storage Storage fees from August 1st until spring – 6 mo. minimum.
- Length is measured from rear of motor to front of trailer
- Runabout: length X $1.50 per foot per month
- Example 21’ x $1.50 =$31.5 x 6 months = $189
- Pontoon boats: $2.00 per foot per month
- Example 29 x $2.00 =$58 x 6 months = $348
- Storage Garage (concrete floor): Length X $2.50 per foot per month.
Ramp Committee: The new boat ramp approach will be poured within next two weeks, weather permitting.
- We were hoping to have it done before holiday weekend, but unlikely. Will place signs not to use/block the new ramp way. Regular old North Ramp IS OPEN for use. Dock is not in water yet.
- Board member will connect with Friedlein to move process forward & complete asap.
Beautification Committee: New trees have been planted along common ground parallel to the sand pit.
If you have plants to divide and wish to donate to committee, please place at the end of the cart trail just before the pond. Thank you all for the great donations so far!

NEW BUSINESS:
Discussion held on the importance of getting and having continuous representation regarding County Taxes.
We know how everyone on the island has been affected by Clayton County tax increases the past couple years. Will mention it as an agenda point at the annual meeting and how we might continue to have our voices heard on current & future taxing situation.
- Don Niosi shared a published article in the Des Moines Register on April 20th for reference:
- Discussion held on preliminary Annual Meeting Agenda and inserts for the mailing to be sent out the week of June 7th.
REMINDER: 3–BOARD MEMBER OPENINGS Need to be Voted on by/at Annual Meeting!
VOLUNTEER NAMES NEEDED by June 3rd for inclusion on ballot to go in annual mailing.

- If you are new to running for the board, you need a ballot approval form and 25 member signatures prior to being placed on ballot!
Pond Recreation Area: Input needed and welcomed for the ongoing improvement of pond recreation area. Teri Denner and Cindy Miller presented preliminary draft to include with annual meeting mailing.
POND WORK DATE: **Tentative June 2nd 9-12. Clean up cart trail, rake sand, pickup any remaining debris from spring high water. Bring bug spray, gloves, rakes, shovels and a can do attitude. (Possible work day in July) *If there is a change in date/time, you will see a notification on the website, email list and Facebook. Thanks!
- Reminder to Pet/Dog Owners to abide by leash and dog ordinances. Clean Up after your dogs! Thank you.
Annual Meeting will be held June 23, 2018 at 10:00
Board Meeting immediately following conclusion of Annual Meeting.
