Important Island Announcements

Back road will remain closed for about another week due to soft areas and boils in the road. If we stay off it it should restabilize and we will avoid major repairs. Please respect the closure barricades.

Trash Dumpsters will remain in place for the next 2 weeks. we anticipate resuming normal pick up after that.

Please no tires, electronics, Tv’s appliances as we will have to pay extra to get rid of those things. Normal household waste only please.

We still have Red Cross Clean up kits for those with flood affected properties. Contact a Board member to get one.

Red Cross Clean up Kits

Bob Gilkes informs me that we have between 20 and 30 Red Cross clean up kits. They will be put in the association shed. Let us know if you need one. We do have our first Board Meeting at 8:30 Saturday so we will be at the Island office that morning.

Urgent Notice, road closing

Sheriff has notified us that at 6:00pm on Saturday (4/16/11) The Island road will be closed  until water receeds. Please make appropriate plans and be safe .

FLOOD STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LA CROSSE WI
1115 AM CDT THU APR 14 2011

…UPDATE ON MISSISSIPPI RIVER FLOODING…

THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER IS FINALLY NEARING ITS CREST. THE LATEST
OBSERVATIONS AROUND THE LAKE CITY AND WABASHA AREA INDICATE THAT
THE RIVER IS VERY NEAR ITS CREST IN THOSE LOCATIONS. AND FURTHER
UPSTREAM…THE RIVER IS NOW FALLING SLOWLY AT HASTINGS…AND IS
AT THE CREST AROUND RED WING.

WHILE THE CREST IS NOW ALMOST HERE…WE CANNOT LET OUR GUARD
DOWN YET. WE ARE STILL MONITORING RAIN POTENTIAL FOR THE NEXT FEW
DAYS AS A STORM SYSTEM MOVES THROUGH THE REGION. RAIN AMOUNTS OF
A HALF-INCH TO AN INCH WILL BE POSSIBLE THROUGH FRIDAY AROUND THE
REGION…WITH SOME HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE. IF RAINFALL IS
HEAVIER THAN ANTICIPATED…WATER LEVELS MAY END UP GOING JUST A
LITTLE HIGHER THAN CURRENTLY FORECAST.

WE WILL ALSO HAVE TO REMAIN WATCHFUL OF FUTURE PRECIPITATION IN
THE COMING WEEKS. THE RIVER WILL REMAIN HIGH OR ABOVE FLOOD
STAGE FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE MONTH. ANY SIGNIFICANT RAINFALL
COULD SEND WATER LEVELS BACK UP AGAIN.

THE FLOOD WARNING CONTINUES FOR
  THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER AT GUTTENBERG DAM 10.
* UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
* AT 10:00 AM THURSDAY THE STAGE WAS 17.7 FEET.
* FLOOD STAGE IS 15.0 FEET.
* MINOR FLOODING IS OCCURRING AND MODERATE FLOODING IS FORECAST.
* FORECAST…THE RIVER WILL CONTINUE A SLOW RISE TO A CREST NEAR
  19.5 FEET BY MONDAY APRIL 18TH.
* IMPACT…AT 19.0 FEET…THE WATER IS OVER ISLAND ROAD.
